ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to provide future  directions of studies on information privacy by analyzing past and recent trends of the studies. For this, we have reviewed extensive previous studies on information privacy in local and foreign information systems, marketing and other fields. The extensive review of existing studies on information privacy has revealed several distinctive trends in information privacy-related studies. First, the concept of information privacy has changed from the protection of personal rights to the right to self-determination of information. Second, many studies have focused on "privacy calculus," which investigates benefits and risks involved with personal information. Third, information privacy concerns (IPC) represents a general perception about information privacy and many empirical studies have tried to develop a model for measuring IPC. Forth, most studies have examined the information privacy issue at individual level and few studies have been carried out on organizations or nations. Lastly, most studies conducted in Korea tend to focus on laws and institutions related to information privacy, while there are few studies for developing an IPC measurement model or finding antecedents and consequences of IPC.
