ABSTRACT

Within the range of the text interpretation one cannot evade to the question of the authority. If one considers however the entire current of history, the authority in the so-called post-modern time is accepted as necessary limitation for the human existence. This differs clearly from the fact that the modern spirit of the enlightenment is occupied obsessively to diminish the suppressing authority. Gadamer directs its attention toward this condition and tries to convince that each kind understanding proceeds from the authority. From Gadamer's terms such as authority, text and interpretation turn out thus the two following points: 1. The authority of the text is dependent on the authority of the interpretation, as long as the text is a consequence of the interpretation within the communicative context. 2. If the authority of the literary text, which not only as means of communication is to be understood, but also as language of the Seins, the authority of the interpretation is dependent quite on the authority of the text. The term of the authority is understood however with Gadamer still only in connection with the “hierarchy of the knowledge possession”, according to which Gadamer is judged that he would have not completely nevertheless eliminated the suppressing character of the authority. In order to affirm the authority without their suppressing character, is necessary a new understanding for the authority. The authority should be understood from the authenticity of the Being(Sein), not from the “hierarchy of the knowledge possession”. This is called the acknowledgment of the of the own existence(Dasein).
