AB - Laoze and Zhangze are the foremost Daoists in the beginning of the Chinese Philosophy. Both of them are criticized the civilization and ritualized world that is discriminating the man, myriad creatures and nature. For this, both are focused on the ‘emptiness’ but these two positions of criticism is different. Laoze was emphasis the political emptiness called ‘doing nothing’ whilst the Zhangze was weighting on the ‘be in a state of mental abstraction’ of language and civilization in personal sublime level.
According to Laoze, the Dao that is able to mention but the Dao itself is far above the limitation of the language. However, he claimed that the language and desire is nature of mankind and they have the function that is exchanged values. Therefore he was regarded that the language and desire is one of attributions of Dao. On the other hand, Zhangze was tried to see the essence beyond the language and desires to seek the true freedom of mind.
Therefore, there are differences between these two Daoists, in the point of expression of ‘emotion’ and ‘mind’ In the usages of emotional words of Laoze, he stresses the political power relative words and desires rather than ‘emptiness’ For Zhangze, he shows the meditative and cultivation of oneself purpose. He wanted to transgression of civilization, language and desire to grasp the ultimate freedom. Therefore, he displayed the difference between ‘fasting of the mind’ and ‘prejudice’.
