ABSTRACT

This study analyzes issues in refugee education in Korea by reviewing 50 selected domestic studies using Network Text Analysis (NTA). An analysis was conducted for each period of the 1st to 3rd Basic Plan for Immigration Policies. The results were as follows: “adult education in the context of multiculturalism” and “children's rights and welfare” were issues in period 1, “emphasis on global citizenship education” and “education measures for refugee children” were issues in period 2, and “Korean language education for refugees” and “resettled refugees” were issues in period 3. “Refugee children's rights,” “Social adjustment of refugee children,” and “Korean language curriculum and education policies” were issues in all three periods. These results suggest that1) Ensuring the rights of refugee children and supporting their social adjustment is imperative; 2) Enhancing the effectiveness of policies about Korean language education is necessary; 3) Policymakers should consider the characteristics of various refugees when establishing policies.
