AB - This study analyzed through research of the emerging factor of Chochiwon, the status of Chochiwon in the Korean urban system and the formative process of urban internal structure of Chochiwon in Japanese colonial period. The results of this study are summarized as follows : the main emerging factor of Chochiwon in Japanese colonial period is considered as the installation of Chochiwon station in Seoul-Pusan railroad, the status of Chochiwon in the Korean urban system as absorption and integration of neighboring road and water traffic, through Seoul-Pusan railroad and formative process of urban internal structure of Chochiwon as the construction of transportation, administration, commerse and education centered railroad station front city. In general, the characteristics of national spatial structure influenced greatly status of individual city in Korean urban system, and it influenced greatly the formation of urban internal structure. The Chochiwon railroad station established in Seoul-Pusan railroad played important roles in incorporating Chochiwon into intermediate Korean urban system and played influential roles in making Chochiwon as railroad station at strategic foothold as transshipment point between railroad and road and that modern city was spread by filling of functional internal structure.
