ABSTRACT

This study examined the origin of the railroad station names and their impact to the central place changes with the establishment of Honam railroad line (Daejeon-Mokpo, 1914), focusing on six stations (Hamyeol, Iri, Buyong, Gimje, Sintaein, Jeongeup) in Jeonbuk region. The names of the railroad stations conforming the related administration names were Hamyeol, Gimje and Jeongeup station. And Sintaein station name was derived from Taein Prefecture. But Iri and Buyong were derived from the village names. The Sintaein and Iri station name were selected as an administration region name like a Sintaein town and Iri town that got the meaning of regional regional expansion of the station name.
