ABSTRACT

This study looked at a space from a comprehensive perspective to solve the fragmented understanding of the space in Yangnim-dong, Gwangju. The results of this study are presented as follows. First, the prior research on Yangnim-dong was mostly conducted by modern missionaries. Second, the Yangnim-dong area is a dynamic space that is created and changed “modified” by human life during the Joseon Dynasty, modern times, and today. Third, for the development of Yangnim-dong area, it is necessary to restore the voices of various people of various times, acquire a sense of place through historical geography, and develop local geography textbooks together. This study is meaningful in one methodical attempt to solve the problem of fixed spatial recognition.
