AB - 本稿では、佐多稻子の敎養小說とも言うべき素足の娘を中心に、少女のエロティックな渴望の含蓄性について檢討してみた。1934年プロレタリア作家同盟(ナルプ)が解体されて多くの作家達は轉向した。しかし素足の娘は中日戰爭の暗い時代に置かれているプロ作家としての抵抗精神が潛んでいる。
父親の同僚である川瀨に偶然會って犯された思春期少女桃代は、秘密にしようとすることに對して反感を抱いていたが、徐々に靑春のエネルギーが溢れて欲情に目覺めてゆく。少女は犯された事を忘却してひたすらその体驗を甘味に思うようになって、遂に川瀨の家に訪れて成長した自分の身を見せたいという本能的な欲望で彼の前で挑發的にさらけ出している。この少女の性の目覺めや愛の捉え方は、軍國主義的なモラルを强制されて生きるしかなかった當時の人々に積極的な行動を感じさせたに違いない。この作品の背後には自由に生きたいという人間の渴望が隱されて、軍國主義に對する作家の抵抗と自由な人間の內的精神の深化が投影されていると思われる。
社會主義フェミニズムの立場で、非常に進步的な女性の性解放意識をもって、桃代という新しい少女像をイメージ化した。更に女性の自我認識の不足と無知な性に對する觀念から處女喪失だけを問題視する性の歪曲に反發しながら、前近代的な意識の轉換を追求している。桃代の心理の動きは、作者と共通する面が見られ、プロ作家として民衆との斷絶を回復しようとする心理的な解放感がエロチシズムと現れている。プロ作家として自分の精神を束縛して來た階級的な思想、封建的な感情やしきたりを吹き飛ばそうとする强い意思が秘めている。時代の重壓によって、もう後退の兆しを見せていた中で、佐多稻子は思春期少女桃代を登場させて根本的な抵抗意思を失ってはいない事が見られ、この軍國主義のモラルに對する抵抗が當時の民衆に强くアピールできたと思われる。
