ABSTRACT

The Endo's ‘SCANDAL’ can be said to have fictionalized Chapter 7 of Romans of Paul (the Apostle). In Chapter 7 of Romans, Paul laments that when he wants to do good, evil is right there with him. This means that no one is free from the evil. Salvation can be achieved only through the grace of God, but not at all through human efforts. SUGURO, a hero of ‘SCANDAL’, is a famous Christian writer in Japan. Such SUGURO had to prove false the public scandal that he played around with women in red light district. He laments that what he found out is ugly truth that there is uncontrollable evil in himself. When he is in danger of losing everything, at last he desperately needs God. However, God has already opened the door of salvation.
