ABSTRACT

The following is the representation of the intellectual in the “Hwasando” First, The characteristics of ‘Lee Sang Geun’ which are seen in "Death of the Raven" are similar to those of ‘Lee Bang Geun’, who appears in “Hwasando” and ‘Lee Bang Geun’ is based on ‘Lee Sang Geun’ to increase the width of the narrative. Therefore, 'Lee Sang Geun' is the original source of 'Lee Bang Geun'. Secondly, Lee Bang Geun is in a position of observer when the beginning of Jeju 4.3 due to the turn of idealogy. He expressed the conflict and anguish of the intellectuals living in the era of chaos after liberation. Third, the appearance of Lee Bang Geun, who desperately tries to face the defeat of the armed uprising and rescues the people of Jeju, and throws himself in the end, is a good example of practical intellectuals. After he settled in Japan, he discarded the left wing of the ideology and wandered away from his life. He tried to make atonement through the fan of the intellectuals who had no role in history. It also reminds us of the role of intellectuals who live in the present age by rescuing the people of Jeju due to their cool judgment and executive power.
