AB - Objectives: This article is a study to show the possibility of ‘K-literature’ as a product of finding a universal and special aspect of Korean poetry. Based on this point, Kim Chun-soo’s poem gottseuleuyhan seosi, which deals with his essence, was considered to contain elements unique to Korea at the same time as a cultural universal, so he tried to prove the possibility of ‘K-literature’ through this work, especially historically.
Methods: It was analyzed in a new sense from a historical perspective, away from the existing interpretation of Kim Chun-soo’s poem gottseuleuyhan seosi, which is an effort for true self-essence. This is to approach the meaning of one’s existence value anew by looking at Kim Chun-soo’s poem gottseuleuyhan seosi with an awareness and critical position on reality at the time.
Conclusions: Kim Chun-soo’s poem gottseuleuyhan seosi was mainly interpreted as a process of trying to find one’s essence from an existentialist perspective. However, at a time when it is necessary to approach and interpret literature from various perspectives to discuss the possibility of ‘K-literature’ this article examined Kim Chun-soo’s poem gottseuleuyhan seosi from a historical perspective. From this point of view, Kim Chun-soo’s poem gottseuleuyhan seosi shows the relationship between a state that has lost its presence due to violence and an intellectual who tries to resist it, that is, the role of an intellectual to find the existence value of the people as well as the state in an absurd reality. In the end, Kim Chun-soo’s poem gottseuleuyhan seosi can be seen as a cultural universality of self-essence, but it can also be seen as a cultural specificity that shows the concerns of Koreans at the time in relation to Korean history.
