ABSTRACT

Objectives This study explores how human sensibility is being reshaped in an age saturated with AI-generated music, algorithmic curation, and content overproduction. Centering on the enduring appeal of Kim Gwang-seok’s work, it examines why his music continues to resonate despite the rise of polished, standardized forms. The study highlights the cultural significance of a return to the “slow and rough” and considers how musical identity and authenticity are being redefined in the era of AI. Methods The study draws on cultural theories—such as Baudrillard’s hyperreality, Debord’s spectacle, and platform capitalism—alongside current research on AI-driven content production. It also examines Kim Gwang-seok’s life, songs, performance style, and commemorative spaces to interpret the sensibility within his musical world. Through qualitative analysis combining literature review, textual interpretation, and sonic analysis, the study explores issues of musical consumption, memory, and identity in the AI era. Conclusions The findings show that, amid the excess and technical polish of AI-generated music, Kim Gwang-seok’s work offers a human counter-sensibility grounded in imperfection, everyday life, and relational emotion. His music provides emotional depth that technology cannot replicate, suggesting the need for slower, more reflective practices and a renewed understanding of authenticity in the AI era.
