ABSTRACT

Namsan’s location at the heart of Seoul allows it to be directly connected to major urban commercial districts, including Myeong-dong, one of the city’s most prominent centers of consumer culture and a top destination for international tourists. The pedestrian route linking Namsan and Myeong-dong offers high accessibility and enables visitors to experience multiple facets of Seoul within a compact urban space. Leveraging these spatial and cultural characteristics, Namsan has come to be recognized by foreign visitors as both an essential tourist destination and a key photographic spot. Beyond its natural scenery and panoramic views, Namsan functions as a representative K-culture landmark where tourism, leisure, and consumption intersect. This study examines the cultural and touristic appeal of Namsan by categorizing its attractions into festivals, food culture, and surrounding commercial spaces, thereby highlighting how an urban mountain can operate as a multifunctional cultural hub. Through this analysis, Namsan is positioned as a symbolic site that connects landscape, consumption, and contemporary Korean cultural experience.
