ABSTRACT

This study examines how the commercial success of the film The Man Living with the King transformed historical memory into cultural tourism from the perspective of K-History Contents. By reinterpreting the tragic history of King Danjong and the loyal officials surrounding him through an emotionally engaging narrative, the film stimulated widespread public interest in historical heritage sites such as Cheongnyeongpo and Jangneung Royal Tomb. The study argues that cinematic narratives can extend beyond media consumption to encourage physical visits to historical places, creating a convergence of screen tourism and dark tourism. Furthermore, the film revitalized interest in historical figures, including Eom Heung-do, the Six Martyred Ministers, and even Han Myeong-hoe, expanding local heritage into a nationwide cultural discourse. This phenomenon demonstrates that historical contents can reconnect forgotten history with contemporary audiences through empathy and shared memory. The paper concludes that K-History Contents provides an effective model for integrating historical storytelling, cultural heritage, and regional tourism while offering a sustainable strategy for the reinterpretation and utilization of Korean historical resources.
