ABSTRACT

This study examines the establishment of a DDP-centered K-Culture Creative Town as a strategy for transforming Dongdaemun into a global hub of culture, fashion, and tourism. DDP has developed into a major platform for K-content through K-beauty spaces, fashion showrooms, and SeoulCon, attracting large numbers of domestic and international visitors. However, its limited connection with the surrounding wholesale fashion district has remained a critical issue. In response, Seoul’s plan to create a K-pop-specialized street and redevelop the Gwanghui-dong area is analyzed as a spatial strategy for linking intangible K-content with physical urban space. This study also reviews domestic cases such as K-Star Road, Gwangju K-POP Star Street, Kim Gwang-seok Street, and Sonagi Village to identify both possibilities and limitations. It argues that sustainable K-space development requires continuous participatory content, digital technology, commercial linkage, and institutional measures against gentrification. Ultimately, the DDP-centered project may create a virtuous cycle of festival, tourism, stay, and consumption.
