ABSTRACT

This study is explains the increasing need of medical care among the elderly as the aging population and life expectancy is increasing nowadays. The chronic disease of the elderly and the increasing difficulty of daily life need more assistance from others. The changes of family structure, the lack of sense of support, and the increase of women's advancement into society has led into the national discussion. On the 1st of July 2008, Korea implemented a long-term care insurance system for the elderly, which is provided services to the entire populations. Long-term care insurance for the elderly, which marks the 12th year of the system, has been partially supplemented so far to take into account the people's ability to bear burden, enhance the efficiency of financial stability and fiscal spending, and provide quality long-term care services. For examples the expansion of the number of people who are graded on a limited number of people with severe disabilities, and the provision of long-term care services based on their functional status (not their economic status). The increase in the demand for long - term care for the elderly suggests that the long - term care insurance system for the elderly needs to be prepared for stable and continuous operation as the rapid increasing population of elderly.
