ABSTRACT

This study is intended to design preliminary course syllabus to enhance the adaptability to university life and major learning for academic purpose learners entering domestic university and graduate school. In this study, syllabus will be suggested coupling language skills and learning skills together. To achieve this purposes, firstly designing principles of education course and syllabus are suggested. Secondly, I have surveyed the current state of preliminary courses of domestic universities and overseas universities. Third, I have conducted requirement survey involving foreign learners at school, professors and instructors having experiences of instructing foreigners. Fourth, syllabus is comprised considering learners-oriented perspective, fusion of language skills and learning skills, university life and suggestion of classified major. In result of requirement survey, writing, speaking and reading are rated high in difficulty. Subjects replied that presentation, report and writing thesis are difficult point in major learning and searching for data, confirming academic calendar, using library are difficult point in university life. Based on this results, syllabus is suggested subdivided into subjects and contents, vocabulary, assignments and activities, language skills and learning skills. This study has a significance for targeting university learners for whom there are not enough studies and focusing on major learning and university life.
