ABSTRACT

Efforts to understand the problems faced by multicultural parties have been carried out in various ways. However, the lives of multicultural parties have always been objects of sympathy or faver. Based on this recognition of the problem, this paper examines the necessity and direction of implementation of the ‘The point of view of the parties’, which has not received much attention in multicultural studies. The study results are summarized as follows. It was possible to confirm the necessity and core values of multicultural research based on the perspectives of the parties involved. First, multicultural research based on the perspective of the parties is a paradigm of ‘participation’ and ‘solidarity’ to faithfully reflect the position and rights of minorities. Second, the core of the parties' perspective is self-representation and the right to self-determination, which can provide a new direction for multicultural discourse and policies centered on intellectuals, activists, and bureaucrats. Third, multicultural research based on the perspectives of the parties does not exclude researchers, activists, and policy makers, but rather seeks solidarity and exchange. Next, the direction and cases of multicultural research based on the perspectives of the parties could be found in qualitative research and literature research. First, when using the existing field research method in multicultural party research, care must be taken not to target the subject. Second, as seen in the life and history of overseas Chinese in Korea, Korean society is a situation and environment in which it is difficult for multicultural parties to voice their voices. Third, minorities living in Korean society are deprived of self-representation and decision-making rights. Fourth, there are voices of resistance to restore the minority's self-representation and decision-making power.
