ABSTRACT

This study conducted a secondary analysis of the dataset from Roh’s (2026) doctoral dissertation, Development and Implementation of a Humanitude- Based Multicultural Education Program, to examine the differential effects of a Humanitude-based multicultural education program. Whereas the original study focused on program development and overall effectiveness, the present study investigated whether the program produced different outcomes according to learners’ cultural backgrounds, thereby reinterpreting its educational effects from the perspectives of effect heterogeneity and educational equity. The participants were 68 children (28 multicultural and 40 non- multicultural) who completed a 10-session Humanitude-based multicultural education program at three community children's centers in Yangsan, Korea. Multicultural sensitivity was measured using a modified version of the Intercultural Sensitivity Scale (ISS), and social relationship satisfaction was assessed using a revised version of the Multidimensional Students’ Life Satisfaction Scale (MSLSS). The data were analyzed using paired-samples t-tests, Welch's independent-samples t-tests, and effect size analyses. The findings showed that participation in the program significantly improved both multicultural sensitivity and social relationship satisfaction among all participants. Furthermore, multicultural children demonstrated significantly greater improvements than non-multicultural children on both outcome variables, indicating differential patterns of change according to learners’ cultural backgrounds. These findings suggest that the educational effects of a Humanitude-based multicultural education program may vary depending on learners’ cultural backgrounds and educational contexts. This study provides empirical evidence supporting a shift in multicultural education from a culture-centered approach toward a relationship- and value-centered educational paradigm and offers practical implications for developing and implementing Humanitude-based multicultural education programs.
