AB - This study aims to compare and analyze how marriage immigrants and foreign workers are represented in media discourse on Korean language education and to explore the structure of differential inclusion embedded in Korean society’s reception of immigrants. To this end, 3,671 news articles published between 2006 and 2025 were collected from BigKinds, and keyword trend analysis, network analysis, and related-word analysis were conducted.
The results showed that discourse on Korean language education for marriage immigrants was primarily represented within a family- and settlement-oriented framework, centering on multicultural families, children, and home-visit education. In contrast, discourse on Korean language education for foreign workers was characterized by a labor- and job-performance-oriented framework, focusing on migrant labor, the Employment Permit System, and industrial workplaces. These findings indicate that media discourse on Korean language education is structured in ways that assign different social roles and positions to different immigrant groups.
