The analysis of ancient human DNA is increasingly used recently in the study of anthropology and human evolution. Although mitochondrial DNA and Y chromosomal DNA has commonly been the target in the field of human DNA study, HLA analysis of ancient human DNA is extremely rare. This study aimed to develop the PCR method of ancient human DNA for analyzing the sequence of HLA. Authors established a new method for HLA-DRB1 analysis by sequence-based typing. Alleles of HLA-DRB1 were analyzed and typed by sequencing with DNA of ancient human skeletons from Korea and Mongolia 3000-500years ago. The types of HLA-DRB1 were determined by comparing the sequences with those of HLA database (http://www. ebi.ac.uk/Tools/blast2/nucleotide.html). The alleles of HLA-DRB1 of ancient human DNA from Korea and Mongolia were classified by types. The frequencies of HLA-DRB1 types of Mongolia were also presented according to the geography such as West, Central, East, and North. In summary, our method was successful in the analyzing the type of HLA-DRB1 from DNA of ancient human bones. Authors anticipate that many researchers could do their research in a better way to get the genetic information for the kinship analysis between individuals or communities from ancient human bones.

There are a number of studies in the world that uses tibia for sex determination, however there are no such studie in Korea. Eight variables were used to determinate sex of tibia. The sample consisted of 170 tibiae (from 55 males and 30 females). The ages for these specimens ranged from 18 and 91 years. Vernier caliper (Absolute Digimetric, Mitutoyo Corp, Japan), osteometric table (Osteometric table, GPM Corp, Swiss) and Ruler (Ruler, Peace Corp, Korea) were used to measure these variables and statistical analysis was performed. Result showed that the accuracy of maximum breadth of lateral articular surface of proximal condyle (LAB) was highest to reached 80.5%;on the contrary, circumference the body that the point found nutrient foramen (CNF) was lowest correlation variable to reach only 68.4%. Other variables except for CNF showed higher than 75.0% accuracy. Equation of sex determining function was made by the stepwise logistic regression using maximum breadth between lateral and medial condyle on the superior aspect (PAB) and maximum length of lateral articular surface of proximal condyle (LAL). The accuracy of the equation showed 84.8%. This study showed that certain parameters of the tibia useful for sex determination in the case of fragment of tibia are found.

In recent times the modification and injury of foot are shown due to various activity. It is essential to have detailed knowledges about the anatomical structure of medial longitudinal arch of foot for doing orthodigita or making shoes to prevent variation of medial longitudinal arch of foot. This study aimed to measure the constitution and to suggest the index of medial longitudinal arch of foot. Fifty four feet (30 M/24 F) obtained from the collection of the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology of College of Medicine, Hanyang University were studied. We measured the length of foot, the height of foot, and the first ray angle. Also, we found the index of medial longitudinal arch and compared this results with various races anthropologically. Each items was analyzed using SPSS win 13.0. The length of foot was 211.12±13.02 mm and the height of foot was 39.03±6.27 mm. There was statistically significant difference between the values of male and female and among the age groups (p¤0.001). The first ray angle was 24.98±2.16􀆆. There was statistically significant difference between the values of male and female (p¤0.001). The medial longitudinal arch index was 18.43±2.33. The date shows clear distinction between the value of index in this study and the American’s value of index as a result of comparing races. The results of this study would be useful to clarify the characteristics of the medial longitudinal arch.
