ABSTRACT

Our findings can be summarized as follows. First, the concept of Hanbono is seen differently compared to previous studies, developed mainly for the purposes of amusement, and it has since grown into various forms. Second, an analysis of its prevalence in newspaper articles since the 1990s revealed that the term Hanbono’ first appeared in media reports around 2016. Third, an analysis of individuals associated with Hanbono in news articles showed that articles addressing Hanbono have appeared since 2016 , featuring a range of individuals such as actors, comedians, and YouTubers. Fourth, a pattern analysis of Hanbono use indicates that it initially appeared as simple Korean-Japanese hybrid expressions but gradually expanded into more complex and varied forms. Fifth, an analysis of sentence structures revealed specific types of fusion expressions, including those incorporating Japanese endings such as ‘~desu,’ ‘~desu ne,’ and ‘~desu ka’; those fused with ‘~kudasai’; those combined with ‘~dayo’ and ‘~dayone’; those with ‘~shinaide’ and ‘~naide’; and those incorporating ‘~suru.’
