ABSTRACT

This study compared and analyzed similarities and differences between three Korean learners of Japanese in the C-JAS corpus by investigating their usage tendencies of the Japanese case particle “ga.” Through comparative analysis, the study found that although the overall misuse tendencies were partially similar, there were significant individual differences among the three learners in terms of their misuse patterns according to the learning period. In addition, looking at the changes in correct and incorrect use of each learner from the first to the eighth period, their acquisition of the case particle “ga” did not improve as the learning period increased, yet it progressed with irregular changes in the correct and incorrect use rates. Therefore, learners should be required to frequently review the elementary use of the “ga”-case particle and the basic grammar they were exposed to at the beginner’s level, strengthen their ability to use case particles, and improve their understanding of the meaning at the sentence level.
