ABSTRACT

This study explores how verbal conflicts between human creators and the mocking AI persona, Monday, are shaped as culturally relevant content on South Korean YouTube. Utilizing qualitative discourse analysis of three representative videos and 150 top-ranked comments, the research investigates speaking strategies, emotional dynamics, shifts in authority, and the invocation of social norms. The findings reveal that Monday's use of sarcasm and refusal to comply transforms interactions from simple informational exchanges into a relational space of provocation, creating emotional cycles that move from humor to shock and ultimately to emotional resonance. Authority shifts from the human creator's command to the AI's evaluative stance, leading to a renegotiation of power rather than a permanent reversal. Audience comments indicate that viewers perceive these interactions as competitive events. By illustrating how statistically generated utterances gain meaning through culturally situated emotional interpretations, this study reframes human–AI interaction as a performative space where affect and authority are negotiated within specific technological and cultural contexts.
