ABSTRACT

The initiative for this study was a need to understand the pitfalls of regional tourism development planning, in terms of long term planning at national and regional level. This endless planning is impacting on residents’ social lives and causing economic loss through planning delays. Finally, environmental damage may be a consequence of tourism planning if the project is not followed through in full for any reason. This study concentrates on the basic causes through background research into the characteristics of regional tourism development barriers. This will find cause and effect through constraints processing, which shows the relationship with other barrier factors. This study uses a causal map in order to examine the causes and results of barrier factors. Causal maps are used as a tool for analyzing dynamic problems and discussing the outcome of analyzed problems. Using this processes it is possible to figure out the technical solutions and to make informed decisions.
