ABSTRACT

This article pursues the possibilities of sustainable community schoolthrough building principle of socio-economic model. In doing that, it alsopursues the possibilities of community building. Community in city is madeof individual’s interests different from county communities and traditionalcommunities. In Korea, education is crucial issue which every household’sinterest is integrated. Therefore, building and maintaining communityschool is key of making community. Although there are lots of education programs in the city communities,its sustainability, reality and social role are still not clear and controversy isstill on going. This article argues that, to become a sustainable institution,community school should be a form of social economy, and its basicprinciple should be house-hold economy as a form of self-sufficienteconomy. Education is a key issue, integrated interests of many people in Korea. Community can produce education program which community needs andwants. When community provides education what community most need,based on self sufficient principle, community school could be a model ofalternative economy model which substitutes prevailing neoliberal educationand traditional state centered education model.
