ABSTRACT

In France, 2005 might be recorded as “the year of post-colonialism” after emergence of “indigenes of Republic” in january, legislation of “23th feb. law” in which “positive roles” of french colonization is clearly stated, and last but not least, vast and violent riots which broke out in many suburb zone(banlieue) in french territories. Since 2005, themes related to french colonial past, in company with post-colonial discours, return on the front stage of public debate in France. In this article, focusing on Mouvement des indigènes de la République(MIR), we will try to reconstitute debates around post-colonialism in France and their political and social context. Specifically, historical background of MIR will be enlightened via process of establishment of “immigrant youth mouvement” and its differentiation, also situational context will be highlighted through the rampant “islamophobia” in french society after the September 11 attack. And after describing the social context in which post-colonial perspectives immerge as a new ideological frame for immigrant youth mouvement, and analysing its activity style, we will conclude this article by pointing out some limites and significations of this “post-colonial mouvement” in french comtemporary society.
