ABSTRACT

This study aims to analyze and understand the life experiences of female volunteers from a gender-sensitive perspective, focusing on the experience of volunteer work through their narratives. The personal history and volunteer experience of female volunteers participating in various fields are described according to Clandinin and Connelly's narrative research method. Each participant's story is analyzed in three parts: (1) life history including living environment, (2) experience of participating in volunteer work, and (3) gender perspective discourse on volunteer work, and a landscape schematic is derived. As a result of the study, (1) “Rolling the Ground for a House” for past and present lives, (2) “Remodeling of Daily Life” for volunteer stories, and (3) “Building a Mother-like House” for volunteer work as a woman were described as motifs at the construction site. Finally, the landscape schematic described a protective attitude toward others and the world by comparing it to “the incubation of Vinous-throated Parrotbill.” As such, middle-aged women in their 40s to 60s who participated in this study have typical stereotypes in terms of gender perspective. Through volunteer work based on the expansion of motherhood, they contact the world and expand their horizons. This is a different direction from the recent gender mainstreaming, and is to request a comparative study on the gender perspective of female volunteers under 30s.
