ABSTRACT

This study traces and organize various types of Chinese performing arts that Goryeo Dynasty’s diplomatic envoys saw and heard on official and unofficial banquets during their envoys. Lee Seung-Hyu's “Binwangrok” Jeong Mong-Ju's “Bunamsi”, Lee Sung-In's “Bongsarok”, Gwon Geun's “Bongsarok” are the “Yeonhaengrok” that record performance-related contents at that time. The performances include official events such as court dramatic entertainments, acrobatics, and local drama and performances to musical instruments and music appreciation and small-scale singing and dancing performances at private meetings. Although the records related to dramatic entertainments in the “Yeonhaengrok” are brief and fragmentary, they are fact based and informational, and are confirmed neither negative nor critical. This is judged to be an attitude that stems from a realistic and objective view of Chinese performing arts, including entertainments and performances. As a result, it can be interpreted as a indicator that reflects the overall thoughts and attitudes of Goryeo intellectuals toward China and Chinese culture.
