ABSTRACT

This article introduces some interpretations of ‘Seo(恕)’ that were not noticed in previous studies. The previous scholars were also interested in the concept of ‘Seo’; where as, “Seo” in Jeong Yak-yong(丁若鏞) is uniquely related to Christian ethics. Therefore, in order to clarify the characteristics of interpretation of Jeong Yak-yong, it is necessary that major scholars’ interpretation of ‘Seo’ has to be examined first. Also, the relationship between Seongho I-ik and Jeong Yak-yong should be examined in that a core concept of ‘Sosahak(昭事學)’ in Jeong Yak-yong’s interpretation of ‘Seo’ is directly influenced by Seongho I-ik(星湖 李瀷). Thus, this study delves into the Christian ethical implication in Jeong Yak-yong’s concept of “ChuSeo(推恕)” through the study of interpretation of “Seo.”
