ABSTRACT

This study examines the possibility of implementing a model on the neutrality of the Korean Peninsula through Park Soon-kyung’s unification theology. With this purpose, this study presents Park’s three characteristics of the concept’ nation’ from the stance of’ not picking sides,’ which can be called Christian pacifism. First, as a theological theme, ‘nation’ indicates the idea of contract in the Old Testament and the ‘brotherly community’ in the New Testament. Second, the ‘nation’ itself should follow the Biblical commandment “Love your enemy,” going beyond anti-communism for survival while sharing the ontological history between the two nations on the Korean Peninsula. Third, ‘nation,’ including the ordinary people and women, should become the primary agent of unification and pursue the peace of shalom to solve national and international contradictions. Concerning a new country of unified Korea, Park supported the Goryeo federal system as a concept of unification theological’ nation.’ However, this researcher believes that the application of the idea of nation and unification theology is more valid to the theory on the permanent neutrality of unification than to the Goryeo federal system as a third way and seeks an alternative to build a permanent peace regime by developing the validity from three perspectives.
