ABSTRACT

This study aims to investigate the history of research on Dietrich Bonhoeffer in German-speaking countries between his death on April 9, 1945, and recent years and propose new tasks for his research required in the 21st century. Today's rising scholars doing research on Bonhoeffer or so-called the third generation Bonhoeffer researchers are making efforts to present and understand the interpretative understanding of specific images of Bonhoeffer clearly sought after by the first and second-generation Bonhoeffer researchers. As Christiane Tietz conducted the right analysis, new researchers on Bonhoeffer around the world have the task of acquiring clearly the historical and cultural knowledge that previous researchers had naturally in order to understand Bonhoeffer's massive bourgeois background and its impacts on some of his theological concepts. Another challenge before them is to be careful to avoid making an anachronistic judgment due to the lack of historical backgrounds to assess old ideas and actions from a contemporary viewpoint. Of the various research topics on Bonhoeffer requested here, the small-scale topics based on the large-scale topic “Bonhoeffer's understanding of the church” and the research task for “Dietrich Bonhoeffer's ecclesio logical community education” are considered as highly important topics.
