ABSTRACT

The key to the doctrinal reflection and criticism of modern and contemporary ecological theology over the past half-century towards new composition is that ecological theology has failed to extend to a political theological perspective.Ultimately, the final solution to the ecological problem is possible not only through so-called doctrinal, philosophical, theological, and ideological understanding and consciousness change, but also through social solidarity and specific ethical practices such as laws, institutions, and policies, which are political theological solutions. This paper focuses on the concepts of ‘life’ and ‘sovereignty’ in Agamben’s ‘biopolitics’ as the theological basis for this claim. Specifically, it attempts to expand these concepts of ‘life’ and ‘sovereignty’ to ‘ecosystem’ through theological and Christian ethical thinking. Therefore, it reflects on the idea that strengthening the unique status and rights of the ecosystem legally, institutionally, and practically by establishing an ‘ecological sovereignty’ political theology is the way to restore the true order of creation. Through this discussion, the paper aims to contribute to the deepening of modern ecological theology and Christian ethical discourse.
