ABSTRACT

Some of the problems that arise in the society we live in today seem to start from treating others as enemies. Students and teachers, our house and our neighbors’ houses, men and women, new and old generations, indigenous people and residents, opposite sex and same sex, etc. are divided into dichotomies regardless of the object or category. In the conflict between the individual and the group, the meaning of diakonia and hospitality gradually disappears, since only the host considers the other as a guest who must be hostile. Today, as the conflict in society increases more and more, we need a shift in thinking that is simple but difficult to implement, such as changing the positions of the host and guest. It is time to start thinking about hospitality and serving before we are consumed by hostility that we can no longer escape. This paper looked into what the Christian ethic is for hospitality, equality, and service in three main parts. First, we examined Jesus’ teachings for a community of equality, hospitality, and service that goes beyond hatred. Second, we looked at the theology of the Trinity, which is the ideological foundation for building a true community that affirms and embraces others. Finally, the importance of hospitality and service for community living together rather than living independently was mentioned.
