ABSTRACT

This article presents an example of the operation of 'after-school classes' that are effective for smoothly conducting academic studies of foreign students attending local universities and graduate schools, adapting to Korean life, and understanding and acquiring Korean history and culture properly. The purpose is to think about the possibilities that can be applied to the curriculum for foreign students at local universities. Compared to international students in the metropolitan area, foreign students currently attending local universities and graduate schools often fail to adapt to life and study in Korea and give up their studies in the middle. The main reason why they give up their studies is because they do not experience various cultural life in Korea compared to international students in the metropolitan area. Therefore, various learning programs are needed to overcome this problem. In this article, as a solution, the “after-school classes” aimed at foreign students were opened to operate the curriculum. First, the class was run with the focus on local historical and cultural resources. In addition, students' prior participation and active outcomes were derived. This article looked at the overall content of the operation process and procedures of these after-school classes.
