AB - Mo Yun Suk was a poet who expanded the range of poem beyond the limit of literature. She broadened the range of genre as her prose poem ‘Elegy of Ren’was reproduced as a film, ‘Nongae’ was made as an opera, and ‘Sanje’was used to create a script for dance. In particular, ‘Hwang Ryong Sa Gu Cheung Tap’suggested a new style which is combination of lyric, epic, and dramatic poem and showed a writingform that passed beyond border of genre. It contained romanticism and patriotism in general.
This is an epic poem that reflected abundant imaginations as characters were recreated. This poem fulfillssome conditions of epic as it chose the Queen Seondeok as a character and illustrated patriotism in 1970s. In addition, unlike traditional epics that is led by actions of the main character and events, this poem takes allegory form and has imaginations to recreate actions of the main character and events. Namely, it recreated many characters in tales and has mutual text feature.
Moreover, ‘Hwang Ryong Sa Gu Cheung Tap’pursued a stylization as a poetic opera in terms of form. It has elaborate structure of characters and events, use of conversational style and stage directions, process of diverse events and illustrative structure borrowed from tales, proper dispatch of characters, reinterpretation of historic characters, discourse structure of dramatic reproduction, lyrical romantic imagination, and musicality with the potential of chorus have entertainment elements that can be used as a script for an opera or a musical.
