ABSTRACT

Daughters of Kim's Drugstore and Pasi are the representative long novel by Park, Kyoung Ri that Tongyoung as historical time. space of Korean modern and contemporary history is being made into foreground. Daughters of Kim's Drugstore is making the colonial period of Japanese Imperialism from 1864 to 1930s when Kojong ascended to the throne as the stage of novel and Pasi is decribing civilian front through human life to come and go to Tongyoung and Pusan in those days of Korean War experienced in 1950. Daughters of Kim's Drugstore and Pasi are making Tongyoung as background as a space which is describing the change of existence style of human beings which happens in the passage of time to change over from tradition to modern times. While the novelist is writing novel to arouse strong psychologial intimacy for Tongyoung through these two novels, she is recognizing there as damaged place. Thus, it is necessary to study it. About the meaning of hometown loss which is revealed in the novel by Park, Kyoung Ri, it may be classified into 3 kinds as follows:First, it is impossible to return, as members of family are dissolved. Second, it is the place that mammonism is prevalent and corrupt human beings exist. Third, it is the place that one cannot help leaving, as rumor is spread. In the novel by Park, Kyoung Ri, Tongyoung is the space of yearning and the place that one cannot help leaving. There is a place to yearn, to be beautiful, and to want to return at all times in novelist, but Park, Kyoung Ri is recognizing Tongyoung as damaged space. So, it is the hometown of heart that she cannot recur.
