ABSTRACT

This paper is a case study documenting the use of real time Distance Video to teach the Korean Language to students in Kuwait based on the KF Global E-school Program (Sookmyung Womens’ Univ. and Kuwait Univ. Korean Language Program). The author discusses the curriculum used; educational environmental considerations; key factors which should be taken into consideration: the preferred teaching methodology: and appropriate class management. Additionally, this paper proposes the educational model. The educational model explains the interaction between the instructor and the distance learners while using a video-conferencing system, as well as the real time interactions between the instructor and the face-to-face learners in Korea. The model also displays the interaction between these face-to-face learners and distance learners. Furthermore, this paper discusses efficient management of this program including stability of the system, a needs analysis assesment and includes feedback received from participants in the KF program, the development Korean textbook for use of distance education and the cooperation among ministries or the inter-ministry. The author believes that a real time Distance Video Korean Language Program will be a positive educational too for distance learners, especially those who do not have the opportunity to study Korean due to time and geographical constraints.
