ABSTRACT

The aim of this article is to confirm the possibility of female hero novel <Jeongsujeongjeon> published in late Joseon dynasty as Korean education contents. To this end, we look into its culture educational values, application of storytelling and potential education plans. <Jeongsujeongjeon> has narrative structure as typical female hero novels. Female hero 'Sujeong' in the story shows her ability beyond men's power which was quite unexpected at the time when women could barely have chance to prove their ability because of Confucian idea. She set a new idea of woman and relation between husband and wife. Students are expected to understand Korean traditional idea of women, and they can have time to talk and have critical approach to it. Therefore, this novel is quite appropriate for Korean education people who teach Korean culture and have students in advanced level read Korean novels by expanding activities, like resembling its narrative structure and making up stories. Also, making classic stories as useful contents could expand the variety of educational materials. By doing so, good educational contents play an important role in absorbing Korean history into Korean education including traditional values, transitions of society and disparity in male and female.
