ABSTRACT

From the perspective of contrastive linguistics, the negative transfer influencing on the learning of the target language tends to persist in a common sense. The composition data being produced by Chinese speaker's who had learned Korean for 10 months intensively show that the word order has a very low error rate of 1.7% compared in comparison with the 28.0% error rate of the vocabulary, morphological characteristics. This means that the word order of target language can be overcome at a fairly early stage. This is in contrast to the previous discussion that the difference between the word order of Chinese and Korean languages is a negative transfer feature. The word order of Korean as a foreign language is learned by a few simple rules, such as subject-predicate(SOV), topic-comment, modification-modificand, head parameters, etc., and the human cognitive ability to understand the meaning of language structurally. So, the learning burden is relatively small compared to the vocabulary and morphological characteristics. However, the word order of non-head relations requires intensive education, because such individual characteristics involve high learning burden.
