A Study on the Semantic System of the Words Associated with Maleness

ABSTRACT

This paper, in trying to develop mentally inherit achievements from previous studies, crystallizes ‘maleness’ by analyzing the meanings of maleness-associated words and arranging their common and distinctive meanings. As a result, Ssikssikhata ‘to be valiant’ is analyzed as [invincible spirit] [high spirits], Yongkamhata ‘to be brave’as [invincible spirit] [immobility], Tanhohata ‘to be firm’ as [invincible spirit] [exclusion], Taypemhata ‘to be large-hearted’ as [invincible spirit] [magnanimity], Kanginhata ‘to be persevering’ as [invincible spirit] [physical healthiness] [endurance], Tangtanghata ‘to be dignified’ as [invincible spirit] [physical healthiness] [fairness], Numrumhata ‘to be dashing’ as [invincible spirit] [physical healthiness][fairness] [dignity], Hwenchilhata ‘to be strapping’ as [physical healthiness] [height], Kencanghata ‘to be robust’ as [physical healthiness] [skeleton], Kangkenhata ‘to be vigorous’ as [physical healthiness] [skeleton] [strong foundation], and Mesissta ‘to be chic’ as [evaluation]. In future, it is expected that the maleness-associated words can find their places with linguistic elements of sex discrimination between male and female generally examined.
