ABSTRACT

This paper examines the implications of the deceleration of entanglement for the symbiosis of humans and nonhumans amid the catastrophe brought about by the Great Acceleration of the Capitalocene, focusing on U-Ram Choe’s Little Ark (2022). Here, the deceleration of entanglement refers to the multiplicity of time that emerges within polyphony. To do so, the paper analyzes the materiality, assemblage, and performance of Little Ark from the perspectives of Anna Tsing’s polyphony assemblage and Donna Haraway’s worlding-with. Through this analysis, the paper argues that Little Ark, rather than replicating the progressive logic of the Capitalocene, reveals itself as a performance of the ethics of deceleration responding to living and dying.
