ABSTRACT

This article offers a critical examination of Alexander Bogdanov's universal organizational science, “tektology,” within contemporary eco-socialist debates over monism in the Anthropocene. To this end, it closely reviews the scholarship that has driven Bogdanov's ‘contemporary revisiting’ - Wark (2015), Chehonadskih (2023), and Nunes (2025) - identifying both the productive insights and the philological limits of their readings with respect to labor, metabolic rift, and perspectivism. In the process, the article traces how two figures coexist within a single monist system: the “ecologist Bogdanov,” supported by the bi-regulator, the law of the minimum, and plasticity; and the “Promethean Bogdanov,” who envisions the total organization of the natural world through machine technology. This tracing is read alongside the contemporary eco-socialist controversy structured by the opposition between dualism (Foster, Saito, Malm) and monism (Moore, Latour). The article concludes that Bogdanov's contemporaneity lies not in the coherence of his thought but in its internal fissures, and that the significance of those fissures becomes legible through his intellectual counterpart, Andrei Platonov.
