ABSTRACT

Hyo(filial piety) works mutually and compositely between the four variables - obedience, friendship, persistence, and attorneyship - and helps families and their nations to continue to exist and develop. Hyo is the core ethical matter to be dealt with not only among family members but also in social relationships. Solomon's ethical system of Hyo in the Bible was working in the power structure of the nation rather than the one in his family system. However, since its political power was distributed in his family members, the ethical system of Hyo in the Davidic Kingdom was based on Hyo practice both in his family and the national power structure. Therefore, Hyo practice is not limited in parents-children relationship or family members. We should take account of the relational variable of the society and nation. So, Hyo thought was a critical variable for the persistence of Solomon's kingdom. But, for more profound research, we need to study the whole ethical system of Davidic Kingdom to complement and better understand the Hyo practice in Solomon era.
