ABSTRACT

In modern society, how can we understand “filial duty”(孝)? And how must we understand it? In order to reestablish filial duty as modern meaning, we want to see first our traditional culture about it in this paper. And in the 1st method of our researches, we want to find the original form of our filial duty from Mongolia which have kept traditional filial duty of north Asia nations not to be in Confucian culture. Mongolia which was the beginning area of our nation and had shared many common culture until Mongol Empire and Goryeo times, is our brother country in the point of race and culture. Especially Mongolia has kept a matrilineal family until now in contrast with our nation. And Mongolia society still has a large or extended family system based traditional filial duty because of high level of traditional industries. In this paper, I would infer the origin form of our filial duty from Mongolia traditional culture, and modernly reestablish it. Furthermore, I would help the reestablishment of Mongolia tradition with this paper.
