AB - Background : Recently, due to various dysfunctional problems occurring in our society, we have begun to focus again on the ‘filial piety’, the basis of family ethics. However, filial piety, which emphasizes only one-sided bottom-up virtues, is not welcomed by modern people. Therefore, it is time to expand the base of HYO, which reinterpreted filial piety by emphasizing harmony and relationship.
Purpose : This study seeks to find a way to promote the HYO emotion that contemporarily reinterpreted of the paradigm of HYO. Raising emotional intelligence, which acts as a lubricant for social relationships based on HYO, a basic natural emotion, will be a way to maximize HYO practice. Therefore, in this study, HYO and emotional intelligence, which are human natural emotions, were fused into one within the common denominator of 'emotional' and named 'HYO emotional intelligence(HEI)'.
Methodology : This study is the step of devising a program before preliminary execution. To this end, we first tried to secure the validity of the program design by examining the concept of HYO, the theory of emotional intelligence, and the theory of color psychology. Through this, this study would intend to construct the contents of the program by borrowing the components of Korean parent-adolescent affective bonding(Bu-Ja-Yu-Chin-Sung-Cheong) which the twin concept with the HYO emotion as a subject and applying the constituent concepts of emotional intelligence and color psychotherapy. In order to confirm the final program in the future, it is necessary to review it through preliminary execution after conducting a demand survey and expert advice.
Results : The instrumental and therapeutic functions of color would generate and the emotions such as respect, sorriness, comfort, gratitude for own’s parents through re-experiencing mind of weness-sameness, folksiness and preciousness. This emotional experience will improve emotional intelligence and increase intimacy with parents. Through this, it is expected that natural reactions such as “I want to be filial” and “I want to be good to my parents” will come out.
Implications : First, emotional intelligence can be improved only by promoting HYO emotions. Second, HYO education will be much easier and more effective if colors that have low resistance and can change emotions naturally are used. Third, in order to develop various HYO programs, it is necessary to develop a HYO scale that can be verified from both the parents' and children's perspectives.
