AB - This paper aims at exploring the cultural characteristics of korean industrializaton and democratization under the Park Chung Hee's Regime. For this aim, I studied the Masan Changwon area, which is one of the most important areas of 'industrial revolution' of korea and Puma uprising at the end of Park Chung Hee's Regime. This study shows that the 'industrial revolution' of Masan Changwon area is deeply related with the Confucian values, such as diligence, selp help, cooperation, royalty to nation, duty to parents. But the reason for the pusan masan people's uprising in 1979 is not confusian ideology itself of Park Chung Hee's regime. Rather,the reason for this uprising is disregard of the core values of confusianism, namely affection, justice, and traditional people's right of revolution. On the other hand, political leaders of democratization movement were mostly christians with Western orientation. In comparison with this korean case, the idea of Iranian anti government revolution in 1979 was Islamic and anti american. Today, it became more important to revitalize the traditional confusian core values in the crisis of western domocracy and globalization.
