ABSTRACT

This paper is an outcome of the follow-up task supposed in the article “One day hotly experienced by an ice dealer: A micro-historical analysis on a participant in the 3·15 worthy uprising”(The Journal of Human Studies, 2018, no. 46). It tried to answer two questions concerning the motivations of participation of Sangchil HA and the reasons for his long silence. In 2011, Mr. HA made an application to the evaluation for man of national merit to fail for the reason of absence of objective evidences. This fact gave us an impetus to reexamine the existing evaluation methods for men of national merit. We found, the principle of‘objective evidences’has two adverse effects such as creation of ‘victims of good will’ and loss of opportunity to enhance historical reality. We propose complementary rules to resolve them through an active using micro-historical methods: inspection of story-telling consistency of the testimonies, falsification test, and examination of historic subsidiarity. We suggested also some elements able to make possible their smooth execution: complete abolition of human guarantees, double evaluation committees, face-to-face evaluation, limitation of rewards, etc. Finally, we tried to apply these three complementary rules to the case of Mr. HA. We find that his testmonies is not only consistent in story-telling and passes the falsification test, but also they have somes elements able to clarify some episodes and to suggest some undiscovered facts.
