ABSTRACT

I aim to analyze the modern utilization pattern and its significance centered on the webtoon <Barojabneun Soonaebo> and the novel <Five Hundred Years of Fifteen>, which utilizate the <Dangun myth>, a representative myth of Korea that embodies national identity and history. Both works utilize the original material and settings but introduce variations in character traits and relationships to progress toward new conclusions. They inherit the heroic narrative structure of classical literature while delivering messages about the significance of strong inner selves, proactive life attitudes, and the importance of relationships and love between characters. The growth of these characters culminates in a worldview of coexistence and integration. The integration they achieve can respond to discussions regarding the somewhat unilateral nature of integration in the original myth, presenting scenes where characters from different tribes achieve a harmonious and peaceful integration in an equal state. This illustrates a positively expanded concept of integration, providing a meaningful message relevant to the increasing diversity in modern society.
