This study investigated the relation between multicultural receptivity and civility/citizenship characteristics among different grade cohorts using higher order regression model. Survey data were collected from cohorts of elementary school 4th graders and middle school 1st graders over two years. Our findings include the following: (1) In the case of elementary 5th graders, controlling for gender, parental education, oversea travelling experience with parents, hours spent for reading, civility and citizenship values, academic achievement showed statistically significant relationship with multicultural receptivity score. (2) In the case of middle school cohort, parental education, overseas travelling experience were not statistically significant, but the effects of gender and hours spent for reading, civility(civic) and citizenship values on multicultural receptivity were statistically significant. (3) Compared to elementary 4th grade cohorts, 1st year middle school cohort’s level of civility and citizenship values and multicultural receptivity scores were low. (4) Female students in the middle school cohort scored higher in multicultural receptivity than male students, but the effect of hours spent for reading was very small. (5) The cohorts’1st year scores seem to predict the 2nd year multicultural receptivity both at the elementary and middle school levels. Specifically, with the first-year middle school cohort, overseas travelling experience and civility and citizenship values were statistically significant predictors of multicultural receptivity. (6) Finally, in the case of the middle-school cohort, gender and the 2nd year civic and citizenship values were also statistically significant. We suggest that in depth studies to enhance civility and citizenship values and multicultural receptivity are needed.

In a rapidly changing society, it is necessary to find a method for suicide prevention as individual crises become a social problem. Over the past decade, the increase in suicides has pushed it to fourth place as a cause of death. Major factors have been an increase of youth suicide and the prevalence of depression. Despite the promulgation of a 'cultural composition law for suicide prevention and respect for life' and regulations for the prevention of suicide and the commitment of many institutions in local government and the private sector, it is difficult to focus on a fundamental measure that can function as a single pivot point to reduce the number of suicides. The concept of global citizenship assumes altruism and assents to diversity. By improving the rigid social system and overly uniform relationships, it can reduce the causes of suicide and thus has the potential to help prevent suicide. The development of a successful suicide prevention program can leverage existing global citizenship education.

This study is a case study of the New Political Vision Party to examine the causes of failure in making new parties in Korea. Assuming that not only dissatisfaction with the existing political parties, but also electoral competitiveness is necessary for the survival of new parties, it examines how the new party made efforts to take its ideological position different from other major parties and maintain its issue ownership. This study shows that the NPVP failed to find its distinct ideological position and to make any notable efforts to initiate issues related with the old regional cleavage and emerging generational, ideological, and economic cleavages, which helped Ahn Cheol-soo and his NPVP gaining political support from Koreans, and therefore, had no choice but to merge with the Democratic Party.
